Before there was Kamala Harrisor Shirley Chisolm on the national political scene,there were local and state political black female leaders paving the way. Meet Maryland State Senator Verda Freeman Welcome, the second black woman to be elected to a state senate in the early 1950’s.

Hear Senator Welcome, portrayed by Janice the Griot, champion for laws to eradicate racism in the schools, places of work, public accommodations, and interracial relationships in this virtual program. Presented in Partnership with the Reginald F. Lewis Museum.

Build your own boat and test its seaworthiness.

View the boat models our program graduates have built and interact with some of the critters that live in our Chesapeake Bay. Discover the rich and diverse history of boat builders in Annapolis and Eastport and learn about the Seafarers Yacht Club!
